Gill Sans
Mark Boulton comments on Gill Sans today. The Clickable Bliss logo is in Gill Sans. It’s the first I’ve worked with the font, and I do say it’s growing on me. When Mike Rohde (who designed the logo) first suggested Gill Sans I spent some time reading up on it in one of my old Typography books from college. It’s a real interesting font face, with a lot of history. So anyways, in Marks blog post he writes:
If there’s one thing about Gill Sans that puts me off is the lower case ‘a’. Just look at it. Top heavy, unbalanced and well, just weird looking.
In the Clickable Bliss font we ended up trimming up the tail of the ‘a’. At a headline font size, it was causing too much of kerning problem with the ‘b’ to its right. I hope the typography purist don’t mind too much.
Anyways, just want to give Gill Sans a nice plug. I am particularly enjoying it in the Clickable Bliss logo, its capital ‘c’ with the nice arch, and its capital ‘b’ with its extra “belly” on the bottom.

Mike, glad that Gill is growing on you! It has long been one of my favorites for a lomg time, mainly because of the human feel it portrays, yet maintains an air of business. I the case of your logo, both of those features were a plus, conveying both the human and business aspects of Clickbable Bliss.
Wooo! Today Mike, tomorrow the entire world!!! Many Typo purists scoff at Gill Sans, but now I’m certain we’ll eventually make them see. Did I mention I have Gill sans on my Mac? No, not in the fonts folder. I mean on the casing, right below the power switch.
